We last made some wonderful warm strawberry sauce and what better to put that on top of, than some French toast? This isn’t just any French toast, thought, this is a crunchy coated stuffed French toast! I had some leftover cream cheese frosting from a cake that Molly had made earlier in the week and wanted to use that frosting up. So I sandwiched some between slices of whole grain bread and dipped that into the egg mixture. Now you could just stop there and fry up your French toast with no problem, but why don’t we boost the grain intake and nutrition value of this breakfast by dipping the French toast in a mixture of rolled oats, flax seed meal and wheat germ? This was wonderful, crunchy on the outside and creamy on the inside. It was made even better by the not too sweet strawberry sauce draped over the top of it. In this video, Betty demonstrates how to make an Inside-Out Hot Brown Sandwich. This recipe was inspired by a sandwich I ordered at Wallace Station Restaurant in Versailles, Kentucky. It is similar to the famous Kentucky Hot Brown Sandwich, which was invented by the Brown Hotel chef back in the 1920′s. The Kentucky Hot Brown Sandwich is an open-faced sandwich baked with Mornay Sauce over the top. You will find an authentic recipe for the Kentucky Hot Brown Sandwich in bettyskitchen. The recipe for the sandwich in this video has most of the same elements, but it is a closed sandwich that is grilled on the stove.
